Third graders at LaPerche worked at finding the area of composite shapes by using the length and width of rectangles. Students had access to a grid to use to draw shapes before measuring. They discussed a variety of strategies they could use to find the area within the shape and worked to find unknown side lengths by using parts of other rectangles.
