Monday, March 23, 2026-Jump Rope for Heart in March
Dear LaPerche Families,
We are excited to share that our students will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart Kids Challenge during Physical Education classes.
This program is a fun and meaningful way for students to stay active while learning about heart health and helping others. We will be sending a flyer home with your child that includes a QR code to sign up. This program will run until the end of March!
We ask that every student sign up to earn a wristband, even if they do not collect any donations. Students who choose to collect donations will have the opportunity to earn additional prizes along the way.
We encourage all families to take a moment to review the flyer (sent home and attached to this emil) and support your child’s participation in this exciting event.
Sign your child up by clicking on this link.

Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1, 2026-RICAS State Testing for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders
On March 31 and April 1, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will participate in statewide ELA testing called RICAS (Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System). Check out this link to learn more about the assessments:
https://ride.ri.gov/instruction-assessment/assessment/ricas-assessments
LaPerche will provide mints and sugarless gum for the students to help with focus and attention. Please support your child by ensuring they get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. Remind them to try their best and not to stress. While we want them to work hard, the test does not define your child or LaPerche. It is just one piece of data. Reach out to Mrs. Dorsey with any questions at jdorsey@smithfield-ps.org.
Friday, April 3, 2026-No School for Staff or Students-Good Friday
Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM-Teaching and Leanring Night-I’ve got the POWer to WRITE!
On Teaching and Learning night, students are encouraged to bring their families to LaPerche to showcase their writing skills. Families will visit classrooms, review student work, and learn more about SRSD (Self-Regulated Strategies Development), which is our approach to teaching writing.
Also, that evening, we will share a cultural potluck to celebrate diversity, build community, and strengthen bonds through the universal language of food. Please think about a dish that represents your heritage that you would like to share with other LaPerche families. By sharing dishes that represent your heritage, you not only enjoy new flavors but also learn about the stories, history, and traditions of others.
