Dear LaPerche Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! The LaPerche staff and I are preparing for another fantastic year filled with fun learning opportunities for all students.
Our first day of school for first through fifth-grade students is Tuesday, August 25. Kindergarten students have a screening appointment during the week of August 25, and their first day of school is Friday, August 28. Kindergarten families arrive at 9:00 AM on that Friday. Some preschool students start on Tuesday, August 25 and others start on Monday, August 31. Check your email for a message from your child’s kindergarten teacher.
A few updates and reminders:
Students will be informed of their class assignment on Monday, August 17. Families will receive an email indicating teacher assignments. Preschool families will receive information about their start date in that email. Who’s Who at LaPerche will be shared in that email, and provide snapshots of the amazing LaPerche staff!
Kindergarten Bus Riders Orientation-New first graders and kindergarten students are invited to a bus orientation on Tuesday, August 18, at 9:00 AM at LaPerche. You do not need to register; just show up at LaPerche! You can park near the flagpole or on the school side and enter through door #1.
New Student Tour-New students are invited to LaPerche on Tuesday, August 18 at 9:45 AM for a tour with school principal, Julie Dorsey. The tour will immediately follow the bus rider orientation. You do not need to register; just show up at LaPerche. You can park near the flagpole and enter through door #1.
School supply lists can be found on the LaPerche website under “Parent Info” and “School Supplies”. At LaPerche, we work hard to reduce our impact on the earth by recycling everything and composting all food scraps. With that in mind, we ask each student to bring a reusable water bottle to school each day. We have multiple water bottle filling stations that students can access throughout the day.
Please choose a water bottle for your child that does not leak when tipped over. No open straws, please. Also, please do not send glass bottles to school. Thank you.

Friday, September 18-Back to School Social at LaPerche-5:00-7:30-Please join us for our Back to School Social! Enjoy BINGO, games, martial arts demonstrations, face painting, food, and more!
Tuesday, September 22-Open House at LaPerche- 5:00-7:00. Bring your whole family to LaPerche to visit your child's classroom, meet your child's teacher and other staff members and explore the building. This is a drop-in event and families are welcome to attend during any of the two-hour block.

Drop Off and Pick up Procedures
IC (Infinite Campus) Parent Portal-You will need to access the Parent Portal this year to review your child’s report card, complete annual updates and more. The Parent Portal will open on August 22nd. You will use the same username and password you used last year. If you are new to LaPerche, please email our secretary, Cara Reece, to retrieve the information needed. creese@smithfield-ps.org
Cara will be back full-time on Monday, August 17, 2026. Her hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Shoes for School-Students must wear shoes that cover their toes and have a strap in the back. Flip-flops, slides and open toe shoes are NOT allowed as students attend recess every day and they are not safe to run in.
Smart watches, smart eye wear, cell phones, and other electronic devices are not allowed at school. Please keep them at home. Thank you.
Clothes to Kids RI
Clothes To Kids RI is a nonprofit organization that provides new and quality used clothing to low-income or in-crisis school-age children in Providence County, Rhode Island, free of charge. Families can shop twice a year, and they must have a referral letter from an approved community advocate to participate. The organization aims to ease the financial burden on families and build self-esteem in children by offering a unique shopping experience. For more information, you can visit their official website.
