Fair Isn't Always Equal
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to talk about the topic of fairness a bit today. LaPerche School is a Regents' Commended and High Performing School filled with wonderful children and supported by a dedicated faculty and staff and great parents. Teachers and administration work collaboratively on all initiatives for our school. Our School Improvement Team drives many of our topics. When I came to LaPerche School eight years ago, we revised the discipline procedures for our school. Teacher committees designed our discipline protocols under the umbrella of district policy.
Happy Holidays
Our website has been down. It went down in the middle of crafting a holiday message on Friday. I hope your holiday was happy!
Best wishes for a Happy New Year!

Communicating
Hi Everyone,
I'm sure you are getting ready for the last busy weekend before our break! It's such a hectic time for everyone. I just want to remind you that if you ever happen to send a communication in to me with your student, and I don't get back to you in a timely manner, please don't hesitate to call me or send me an e-mail at dolson [at] smithfield-ps [dot] org. I would never not get back to one of my families! You are very important to me.
Thanks,
Mrs. Olson
Late Students
Hi All,
I know we are in a hurry during this busy time of year. I needed to send an AlertNow e-mail speaking about the lateness of some students. It is a safety issue when young children are left on the sidewalk after the bell and are not accompanied in with a parent to be signed in late. When the bell rings, paraprofessionals close the door and students and parents must use the buzzer system to come into the school. We know we all have mornings now and then, that run late, but please be aware that school begins promptly at 8:50. Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks to our PTA for another fabulous Thanksgiving feast. This event is one of my favorite and has been a tradition at LaPerche for many years, even before I arrived 8 years ago! Thank you to Lisa Fiano and Doreen Sanderson and their group of tremendous volunteers. This event provides a wonderful sense of community for our school. We love it!
Tonight I start cooking for tomorrow's dinner! I hope all of you have a great holiday with your families.
Happy Thanksgiving!

First Quarter Reflection
It's been a very busy start to this school year. Maybe because we have personnel changes and everyone is working so hard on new initiatives like the new Teacher Evaluation System. The teachers and I have been hard at work learning this system that applies to teachers and administrators alike.
The school is also managing two pilots - the AIMSweb Behavior Pilot and the district Reading Street Pilot. Mrs.
NECAP
NECAP is now completed for grades 3 and 4. Students in grade 5 will take the Writing Assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Did you see the updated school calendar in the Family Folders? I hope everyone noted the changes. The children no longer have the day off before Thanksgiving or the day off in March. They are making up two of the four hurricane days by attending school on those days in November and March.
New PTA website
Before I leave today I wanted to compliment Kristen Guilfoyle for creating a gorgeous PTA website for our families. Kudos, Mrs. Guilfoyle! There is a link from the LaPerche website under Quick Links.
First week of NECAPs finished!
Hi Everyone,
A few notes as we head into the long weekend! I know everyone is looking forward to a few days away.
We wrapped up our first week of NECAPs. The administration went very well for all students. I am fortunate to have a team of four teachers who act as testing coordinators for the building: Mrs. O'Hara, Mrs. Beckel, Mrs. Monaco and Ms. Furtado.
Science NECAP Results
Hi Everyone,
We were very pleased to achieve the second highest Science NECAP scores in RI this year. We achieved 86% on the Grade 4 Science NECAPS. We will analyze our data and address any areas we identify throughout the school year. We approach looking at student work as an entire faculty and all teachers address student needs at their own grade levels which results in improved student achievement.
We had an exciting week of teaching and learning! We enjoyed a fire safety assembly with Lt. John Coyne. We thank Lt.
