Mission Statement

The mission of R.C. LaPerche Elementary School, as an inclusive learning community devoted to high standards and best teaching practices for all students, is to inspire life-long learning and to develop responsible, self-confident children capable of effective communication and problem solving, through a collaboration of parents, teachers, students, and the community, which fosters a safe, respectful environment, recognizing diversity and individuality.

School Wide 'PAW'esome Awards

Recently, LaPerche School introduced a school wide reward system that encourages students to exceed the expectations and to work as a team. Specific expectations that follow our school motto of RESPECTFUL, CARING LEADERS SUCCEED are posted throughout the building and reviewed periodically.

Every adult at LaPerche is looking for students who exceed those expectations. Student who exceed the expectations will be given a PAWesome Award. The student will present the award to his or her class and cut the award in half. One portion will be placed on our front bulletin board and the other half will come home to share with you! Please encourage your child to share why he or she earned the reward.

What does it mean to exceed the expectations? Here are some examples. LaPerche students are expected to be friendly to all. Someone who exceeds that expectations may be the student who steps in when others are having difficulty with a friend and helps facilitate that conversation while modeling how to be kind.

LaPerche students are expected to put forth effort when completing classwork. Someone who exceeds that expectation may be the student who always attempts the challenge portion of the assignment regardless of whether the answer was correct.

Every classroom has a set goal for the amount of PAWesome Awards they are trying to earn. When the class reaches the goal, they will receive a special reward from our principal, Mrs. Dorsey. The kids have chosen the awards and the list grows each day. Some suggested rewards are extra recess, a dance party, a kick ball game, 30 minutes of uninterrupted reading, etc... Check back periodically to see which class has earned the rewards and their activity of choice!

Raymond C. LaPerche Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in the Smithfield Public School system. Our school is dedicated to Raymond C. LaPerche first opened its doors in 1968 and presently serves students in kindergarten to grade five.
