Mission Statement

The mission of R.C. LaPerche Elementary School, as an inclusive learning community devoted to high standards and best teaching practices for all students, is to inspire life-long learning and to develop responsible, self-confident children capable of effective communication and problem solving, through a collaboration of parents, teachers, students, and the community, which fosters a safe, respectful environment, recognizing diversity and individuality.

Summer Learning!! 6-26-2013

Summer reading lists are now on the district home page and include independent reading activities to go along with summer reading.
Also, each student was sent home with a summer learning packet. In order to attend the outdoor fun festival students must return the packet and three independent reading activities from the summer reading list by September 13th.
If you are looking for additional work, we recommend the Summer Bridge workbooks. At the top of the book there will be two grades listed. Choose the book that represents the grade your child is leaving and the one she is entering. For example, my daughter is going into third grade so I would choose the 2/3 book. You can get these books online for $10-$15.
For math fluency practice, we recommend signing your child up at xtramath.org. It is a free program which will help your child master his math facts. If your child can answer the fact in under three seconds, he has mastered it. It took me about three minutes to sign my three children up for the program and the practice sessions are short, just a few minutes long. The program will show you which facts your child has mastered and which he still needs to work on.

Kindergarten and 5th Grade Step Up

On Tuesday, June 11 at 2:00, we will have our K Step Up program and on Wednesday, June 12 at 1:45 we will have our 5th grade Step Up.  Families and friends are invited to attend both events!  Hope to see you there!

Student Directory and Online Tool for Kids!

Student Directory
The PTA is in the process of creating a student directory for all LaPerche families that will come home in family folders before the end of school. A directory is perfect for when you want to reach out to a friend over the summer. If you do not want your child’s name, phone number and family email address included in the student directory, please email Sandra Bazinet at sbazinet [at] smithfield-ps [dot] org (sbazinet [at] smithfield-ps [dot] org) or call the school at 231-6652 by Friday, May 17thThank you!
Online Library Catalog
At our last PTA meeting, LaPerche librarian, Jen Swartz, introduced the families to the online library catalog she has created for our school. On our library site, Mrs. Swartz has included links to search engines that are excellent tools for kids; links to World Book Encyclopedia for kids, a magazine search engine, links to typing games, etc… There are many tools students can access from the LaPerche site which can be found at www.ricat.net. Once the page opens, scroll down to “LaPerche” and click there. If your child is in third, fourth or fifth grade he/she has been taught how to use this online tool so ask him/her to demonstrate it for you! Thank you to Mrs. Swartz for creating the site and then sharing it with us at the PTA meeting.
