Updates and Reminders from LaPerche--May 2018

Teacher and Staff appreciation week was amazing!  The student artwork, sweet treats, gifts and special notes of thanks were truly incredible and so greatly appreciated.  I am grateful for the way the students adopted other teachers and staff members who were not their teacher. Thank you for making the week so wonderful for all!

Update and reminders from LaPerche:

  • Tonight, Tuesday, May 15 is Orientation Night at Gallagher for all 5th grade students.  Orientation is from 6:00-8:30--See the calendar for all the details.

  • Last day to order LaPerche spirit wear for this year is Friday, May 18.  There are assorted shirts and sweatshirts in the office for you to try on to check the sizes.  Shirts will be delivered to school before the end of the year. Order forms were sent home and can be found in the office.

  • Would you like to volunteer at field day this year?  Field day is scheduled for Friday, June 8 and it is always a favorite day among the students and adults! The flyer was emailed to all families. If you would like a hard copy of the flyer, email Mrs. Bazinet at sbazinet [at] smithgield-ps [dot] org (sbazinet [at] smithfield-ps [dot] org).

  • As you know, LaPerche School is going to the PawSox on Thursday, June 7.  If you would like to chaperone, the cost for an adult ticket is $8. Students cost $11 to cover the cost of the ticket and the buses.   If you already sent in $11 for the adult ticket, we can certainly put that extra $3 towards the cost of the bus or send you a refund. If you would like a refund, please simply email Mrs. Bazinet at sbazinet [at] smithfiled-ps [dot] org (sbazinet [at] smithfiled-ps [dot] org). If you sent in the permission slip without payment, please send it in a envelope marked with your child’s name, teacher name and field trip name. Thank you!

  • In order to volunteer at LaPerche for field day, in the classroom, or for field trips you must complete volunteer training with Mrs. Dorsey and have a current BCI on file with the Smithfield Police Department.  Our next Volunteer Training is scheduled for Friday, May 25 at 8:20. Training takes 15 minutes. If you need to complete volunteer training and that date does not work for you, email Mrs. Dorsey at jdorsey [at] smithfield-sp [dot] org (jdorsey [at] smithfield-sp [dot] org) to set a time that works for you.

Upcoming Dates at LaPerche

Reminders about upcoming events at LaPerche:

  • Wednesday, April 25 is Administrative Assistant’s Day! I hear from many families how wonderful Mrs. Bazinet is and of course, we could not agree more! Let’s take the week to shower Mrs. Bazinet with love!

  • Wednesday, April 25--It is planting time at LaPerche!  Please join us right after school at 3:20 as we plant some new fruit trees and prepare our garden for spring.  All are welcome!  Please bring gardening gloves, small and large shovels and other gardening tools

  • Tuesday, May 1--PTA Meeting at 6:30 at LaPerche.  We are looking for volunteers to fill the roles of Treasurer and Vice President. Please consider volunteering.

  • Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 3--3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will take the math portion of the RICAS test. Testing begins each day at 9:00AM.  Once the session begins, late students won’t be allowed to enter the classroom and will have to make the test up on another day.  Please do everything you can to ensure your child gets a good night's rest, eats a hearty breakfast, and arrives at school at 8:20 so he or she has time to play and socialize before the test begins. Also, at LaPerche, students are allowed to bring sugarless gum or mints to school to enjoy while testing.  Research shows that chewing gum during testing boosts concentration and we found it also helps get the kids excited for a test! Please feel free to send your child to school with sugarless gum or mints on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Friday, May  4--LaPerche Variety Show from 5:30-7:30 at LaPerche--Please join us as we showcase the many talented students at LaPerche!
